If f(x) = (x - 3)2 , find all values of x for which f(x) = 36.

f(x) = (x - 3)²,

For f(x) = 36

(x - 3)² = 36

Take the square root of both sides

√(x - 3)² = √36

(x - 3) = +6 or - 6

x = 3 + 6   or   3 - 6

x =9 or - 3

The values of x are -3 and 9.
