What is the difference between kinetic and mechanical energy?

Kinetic energy is the energy of motion. So when an object is moving it has kinetic energy. Mechanical energy is the moving of parts a roller coaster would have mechanical energy because the chain the pulls you up the first hill has moving parts so it is mechanical energy.
